I have recently install BESR 8.5 on Win 7 Ultimate. The machine is a laptop and has bitlocker enabled. I keep getting the following errors whenever I attempt a backup:
EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points
EC8F03EA: Cannot create a virtual volume image of the selected drive.
E0BB0147: the operation 'Snap Volume' is not currently enabled for this Volume.
Error E0BB0147: The operation '%1' is not currently enabled for this %2.
I have run FIXINSTALL.BAT and rebooted, no effect
I have uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled, rebooted, no effect
I have manually installed and registered the SymSnap service, made sure it's started, no effect.
I have other machines running bitlocker that are backing up fine.
Any ideas?
Ok so I am running

SSR 2013 R2
SSR-MS 2013 R2 for Windows
Upon reading R2 does not support Windows XP, however, Symantec states you can install SSR 2013 (non R2) and the R2 console will manage them. Well I went in and setup everything and XP wont work. Checked the cached folder and it is empty. I then proceeded to the server and it is empty. Figuring you need to install SSR 2013 to get the files but they are not listed in SIM. Any help appreciated.
WIndows 2008 SP2 - SSR 2013 R2 (Eval)
trying to get a job that I created to fire with the RunJobNow.PS1 (BTW, would be an idea to add the following to report what job ID's for each job)
catch
{
$v2iAuto.ImageJobs
Write-Host "Failed to get the image job by specified job ID with an Exception..."
So the problem, I can run the job through the GUI, but when I try to fire the Powershell script, I get the following:
System.Management.Automation.MethodInvocationException Exception calling "DoImageJob" with "2" argument(s): "Result (0xe4f3000f 33 SYMTRACK_ERROR_VSS_WRITER_FAILURE Args [2] Arg (0xbab000d 28 System Writer NPS VSS Writer) Arg (0xbab0006 0x800423f4);)<18 1.0-Backup-Image-* >"
So I check the SSR logs, and there is the following:
Error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points for job: Projects.
Error E4F3000F: Unexpected VSS writer error. Check the application event log for writer specific error. Failed VSS writers: System Writer
NPS VSS Writer. (UMI:V-281-3215-6071)
Details:
Source: Symantec System Recovery
So I go to the event log, and under the application log is the same similar error:
Error 100:
Error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points for job: MCF.
Error E4F3000F: Unexpected VSS writer error. Check the application event log for writer specific error. Failed VSS writers: System Writer

So the extra variable, Trying to backup to optical. Seems like a silly limitation as I would place a DVD in the drive, and backup at 7PM at night with a schedule.
For the past X years, we have backed up our data to DVD with a 5 day rotation to a group of folders. We have had to pull a backup from X week, which is why the need for the backup to DVD. It was nice with NTBackup and a $50 util that would backup to DVD as a tape drive, but with 2003 R2 product support up in July, need to investigate the replacement solution.
Thanks in advance.
I installed SSR 2013 R2 on a 2008 R2 server trial version (Awaiting delivery of key). All went well with the install however once I run through the SRD wizard in "typical" mode which located all drivers, the wizard shows 0% progress and no activity after 15 minutes. Task manager shows app as running and I see no indication of it being "hung", just no progress. What gives?
Thank You

Hi Team,
My SSR 2013 backup job is successfull but when opened is blank.I was able to open it untill yesterday.
The drive is SAN based NTFS formatted about 4TB in size. used space is 3.4TB.
Any help would be appreciated.
regards
I have been trying to make an image and replace a secondary drive with a bigger drive and restore the image to the new drive. Something that with Ghost or SSR2013 pre R2 was usually a no-brainer. I upgraded to SSR2013R2 a few weeks ago after mostly happily using SSR2013 prior to R2.
A week ago I tried to restore an image made with R2 desktop with a R2 boot disc from a USB3 3TB ext. drive and it would not show up when booting up from the boot disc consistently. So I guess 3TB drives are still not an option although 4k clusters are supposed to work with R2.
So....I made another backup to my NAS this weekend. I validated the image when I made it and it was just fine. Nice big green checkmark after that backup. (I know I could have just copied the image from the external drive to the NAS but SSR copies VERY slow and if you use another copy utility, then SSR loses its mind over where the backups are).
Anyway I tried my R2 boot disc again, it found the NAS, and I started the restore to the new drive. No problem I assume! Well....at 50% it just stayed at 50%. Not frozen, the cute little data images were flying into the drive, but it said 50% with 3 hours left.....50% with 4 hourse left....50% with 5 hours left....it just sat there for 4 hours like that at 50%. It had stopped copying data even though it said "copying volume data over existing volume".
But no error messages at all. It "looked" like it was working. Never saw anything like that with SSR in the past. I had it set to not expand the drive size as that has not worked for me in the past either, but it never even got to that point. I also did not check "Verify image" on the restore since I had just verified it a few hours earlier.
Now this is a secondary drive that is not my main boot or main data drive I am replacing but what if it was?
Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated. If I made the image with SSR2013 R2 via desktop program can I restore with a pre-R2 boot disc? At least that worked every time I used it?
Don't know what else to try. Pretty frustrating after renewing support for more than one license and not having a lot of faith right now.
I know I can call support.....and I will if I have to. However this is not something they can screen-share and see happen which is their preference. It is during a cold boot restore.
Thanks,
BJB
Since last week, my nightly scheduled backup job has not run. When I look at the logs it doesn't show any errors but the backup status says it's was last run on 12/18.
Thanks
Hi
Trying to mount a restore point and getting
Error ED800012: The internal structure of the recovery point file (Last File Frame) is invalid, damaged or unsupported.
I can mount the restore point for the c: and e: but not the d: which is 1.4Tb
From what i have found by searching the restore point is corrupt?
Is there any way forward?
I don't seem to be able to create an SRD from within SRR2013. Another thread supposedly had a link to the SRD ISO, but it turns out to be a link for the SRR Server Trial. Would appreciate a valid link or clarification on the file location to use if trying to create from within the application.

Hello,
I think I have just a quick question here. I have license for SSR 2013 which is installed and activated.
How can I release this license to reinstall on another PC? Basically I just want to move the installation to a different PC, still just one PC it will be installed on.
Does uninstalling via Control Panel communicate with the Symantec server to release the license or do I need to do something else?
Thanks much
Allen
Win 7-64 SSR 2013 11.0.2.49853 up to date.
I have the incremental backup set to start a new set (? I may have use the wrong term) full backup YEARLY. However, from time-to-time for some unknowned to me the backup will start an new set. This new unexpected full backup uses up my backup drives disk space and the backup fails.
See the attached file for a list of backups.
Can someone explane why SSR starts a new set?
DLL ? EXE ?
Merci de votre expertise...
I have just installed Symantec System Restore 2013 R2 and created a restore disk on DVD. When I attempt to test the restore function of the restore disk, I am unable to see the local network in the network tree that is presented under Map Drive. I have successfully pinged one of the computers on the network. I have tried setting my network adapter to both dynamic and to static ip addresses. All the computers on my network are Windows 7 Pro. All computers are visible in Windows Explorer when I boot normally. This is a hardwired peer-to-peer network within a workgroup.
This has been king of a pain to diagnose. Basically, the system is not running backups on schedule. I can run them just fine manully but the are not running at the scheduled time for the backup. There are no log messages in either System recovery or in Event Logs. Any information would be helpful.
Thanks,
Karl
I typically use Symantec System Recovery to do P2V of older machines and had a very high success rate, but this one is getting the best of me.
Clone/white box
Windows 2000 SP4
1GB RAM
Symbios SCSI adapter
Single 36GB drive - there are bad sectors
Only reason I need to keep the machine is for the old security controller software - vendor is MIA
When I use SSR 8.5.7 I get what seems to be a good image, but the resulting VM won't start. It says "Inaccessible boot device". I thought SSR put in the correct drivers, but I think I have always done IDE drives in the past which might be more forgiving. Tried using SSR P2V with and without the mini setup, both yield the "Inaccessible boot device".
Is there something else I can use to do a P2V? Or maybe something else I can do with SSR? I am certainly open to suggestions as I want to get rid of this machine ASAP.
Hi,
we made a fresh installattion of System Recovery 2013 and MS Server 2012 R2 with activated HyperV role. SSR2013R2 was installed directly on the HyperV Host to backup the complete system, includig VMs.Two virtual machines have been created: One "Server 2012 R2" VM and one P2V migrated VM "Server 2003". VMs are running fine, Integration Services have been installed.
We tried to backup whole HyperV Server with both active VMs. No success. Backup is running and all seems to be ok. But files are created with the suspect file extension ".v2i.tmp". At the regular end of the backup, files are deleted by SSR and a backup error occur (screenshot attached).
Log entry at the end of backup:
Fehler EC8F17B7: Wiederherstellungspunkte können nicht erstellt werden für Auftrag: Laufwerk-Backup von (C:\), HyperV (H:\).

Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello everybody,
i'm looking for a solutoin since yesterday. I saw that i'm not the one who had this error, but not with the same error code as me. So i checked (and tried) severals solutions found. including the following :
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc73402...
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag...
i add the system writer according to this http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/203856-event-513-capi-2-cannot-fix-this-error-to-save-my-life
but none of those sites are talking about the error code that finish with 540 like mine.
I'll investigate further, but iff someone has any idea. It'll be helpful :)
Hello,
I need to restore a backup which has been done with Norton Ghost in 2008. The backup is available on two DVDs which include some .GHO files.
Neither the system is available anymore, nor the "old" Norton Ghost Software.
Somebody in the forum recommended using SSR to restore, but I didn't find any option inside the software to restore .GHO files.
Please let me know how I could restore the files.
Thanks!
Anyone point me in the right direction for this?
I (just) upgraded to BESR 2013, and I would like to configure backups so that they overwrite after x number of backups, rather than filling up the external drive. Leaving me to note it's full and then manually delete. (not efficient)
This is configured on two different machines, one cycles fine, the other fills up every few months. Try as I might, I cannot see what the difference is between the settings on the machines.
I am sure this is staring me in the face, but as is usual with these things, I need the obvious pointing to me.
Thanks in advance.
P.
