I need a solution

Hi guys,

Im trying to restore some data from my backups but I cannot mount any recovery points from the past 26 days or so I get the attached error message each time I try to mount them.

I've tried using the Synabtec Recovery Point Browser also and it gives an error E0BB00B4: The sequence number in the parent image, 748, does not match 749.

Any ideas?

SSR recovery failed with missing MBR

I need a solution

Hi, we are testing SSR recovery on some Windows servers. The SSR is SSR 2013 R2 and the servers to recover are Windows Server 2008 R2 Std SP1.

In each of the servers, there is a 100MB system reserved partition and C drive. Both are on the same disk. We backed up the server and then tested to restore to itself. However, after the recovery, when the restored server boot up, it shows file \boot\BCD is missing. When I press Enter, the restore server will reboot.

I think this may be related to some options that we selected during recovery. I see there are three options to select: Restore master boot record, restore original disk signature, set drive active.

For the system reserved partition and C drive, which options should we select for the recovery?

if the error we saw does not related to these options, how to troubleshoot from here?

Thanks in advance.

Backup Exec System Recovery SMTP Notifications Limit for Success/Failure

I need a solution

Hello,

Is there a way to only notify when backups have been successful. We have tried all the SMTP settings within System Recovery 2013 and we are still getting 150 email notifications each day. Right now we only have errors and warnings being sent out and still getting over 100 email notifications. Is there a way to limit this to get only emails for successful backups. Please let us know asap and thank you in advance.

Symantic System Recovery 2013 R2 has suddenly stopped working on Small Business Server 2008

I have been using the Symantic System Recovery 2013 R2 for several months on our SBS 2008 and have not had any problems.

Suddenly, last week it stopped creating backups.  There were no Microsoft updates installed prior to the program failing and no other configuration items on the server have been changed.

I am seeing the following error in the event log:

Error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points for job: Drive Backup of (C:\), DATA (D:\), EXCHANGE (F:\).
Error E4F3000F: Unexpected VSS writer error. Check the application event log for writer specific error. Failed VSS writers: BITS Writer. (UMI:V-281-3215-6071)

Details:
Source: Symantec System Recovery

The program is working fine on my other server which runs Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard.

Can you please advise me as to how I can resolve this issue?

SSR Backups constantly fail

I need a solution

I am running SSR2013 on a Windows2012R2 server trying to back up the two local drives to a NAS device with a shadow copy to a USB drive but it costantly fails with the following:

--Unable to write to file.
---Error EBAB03F1: Following Operating System error occurred while performing requested operation: 'An unexpected network error occurred.'
---Unable to set file size.
----Error EBAB03F1: Following Operating System error occurred while performing requested operation: 'An unexpected network error occurred.'

(UMI:V-281-2001-31)

I have checked the following:

There is enough hard drive space on the NAS

All of the permissions are correct

There are no obviously associated event log entries

The job starts and creates three ".tmp" files for the bakup of C: and up to 4 ".tmp" file for X: and then it fails. There were about 21 ".tmp" files for the X: drive the one and only time it worked and the system is set to split the files at 9.4GB in size.

The server is hosting two Hyper-V guests and the VHDX files are on the X: drive.

The annoying thing is that the backup worked once last week (running a base backup) and then we had two differentials as well but this week absolutely nothing will work. I have set it up to create a new base backup each week with Diffs every other day (mon-fri)

If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Best way to replace current backup disk with new disk

I need a solution

(1) I currently have disk M: where I backup my files to.

(2) I have a new larger disk (currently I: and different label than M:) which I now want to use for my backup files.

I have no problem moving existing backup files to the new disk with SSR, but the caveat is that when done I want to change M: to say Z: and then change I: to M:  The reason is, of course, that I want my backup drive to continue to be drive letter M: with my new backup drive.

What would be the best way to do this without causing the backup files to be orphaned.

Thanks for the help -- David

Confused about config

I need a solution

Dear All,

I am a little confused about the behavior of SSR.
I have been using it for this client for a year now and it has never done exactly what I want...

My setup is this:
Windows SBS 2011 (2008/R2+goodies)
SSR for small business server 2013
A/D and Exchange server
Redirected Folders enabled.
About 500GB data stored on a RAID Mirror of 2X 2TB SAS (LSI RAID CARD)
An extra 1TB SATA to dump the backups to. (S:\)
RDX Drive (D:\)
Not virtualized but will be soon.

The copy on S:\ is for “daily backups” where I can recover a single file, etc back 45 days or more.
The off-site copy is meant for D.R.

Ideally, what I want from Symantec SR is this
1. Nightly Copy to S:\ (local 1TB volume dedicated for backups)
2. Off-site Copy to D:\ (Removable 1TB RDX cartridge, swapped nightly)
3. One full, followed by incremental forever
4. 45 days of backups (experience shows, 1TB of backup space has given me over 100 days!)
5. Automatic "wrap around", deleting the oldest first strategy

How exactly do I configure my backup jobs to do this?
I thought I had it right when it stopped doing backups after about 100 days, reporting that the destination was out of space.
Even though I had the 'automatically optimize destination' ticked.

Also, in the logs, it reported it as a user cancellation and did not send me a warning message that the backup had failed so no one noticed for several weeks that there was no backup. Could have been a total mess, potentially.

It's a simple enough requirement, what is the config for this, to get it right so that I don't find out 4 months later that it's wrong?

Thanks,
I am a little frustrated with it and have gone back to wbadmin batch file from the task scheduler, which achieves the above easily.

Regards,

Darren.

Need to switch main backup drive with off-site drive

I need a solution

Currently the backups are to M: (label WD_1000) and off-sites to G: (label Hitachi_3000_1017).

I want to switch so that the backups go to G: and the off-sites to M: without losing the connection between the current backup sets.

I am assuming all I need to do is edit the backup jobs without moving any of the backup files since they are they same names.

Is this correct or is there something else I need to do so I don't orphan the existing backup sets.

Thanks - David

System Recovery change backup destination

I need a solution

We've inherited a network with the existing setup so just trying to make the best out of a current situation.

We have one server using BESR 2010 backing up to a NAS that has died. We replaced the NAS with a new one. Do we need to create a new full backup set or can we just edit the jobs to use the new backup destination?

All of the previous incremental backup sets are gone obviously. The copies that were supposed to go from the NAS to an external drive weren't working come to find out.

SSR deletes restore point after creating it

I need a solution

Running SSR 2011 on Windows 2008 R2 server.  SSR has started deleting a recovery point immediately after creating it, with the result I have no recovery points at all.

This backup system ran for several years without a problem.  Recently, for unknown reasons, the backup destinations had become garbled.  I corrected the paths and the backups are now running but are being deleted after creation.

Since I now have no backups, I'm willing to reset anything that might help fix this problem.

Thanks!

SSR Does not see Drive Volume Label

I need a solution

I am in process of replacing a backup drive with a new larger drive.  I have created a drive label for the new drive which ssr sees in the status and advanced windows.  You can see the new drive Hitachi_3000 (I:\)

180px_01 ssr status.jpg

180px_02 ssr advanced.jpg

However when I go to move the Backup Destination, ssr thinks the new drive "I:\ is not currently named"

What is going on here and how do I fix this?

Restoring from a previous back up - instructions/help needed

I need a solution

Hi

Please excuse me but I am not too clued up on this system as I have not long started with the company.

Our system is backed up to seperate portable hard drives (F drive) and we are now having to restore back to 29th June 2015 due to an issue that has occurred within our accounting system.

We have located some information online that guides us through the process but it does not seem to be working!  We have selected the back up that needs restoring and catalogued this. We then went onto the restore tab and selected 'run now'. However, when checking the system, it hasnt restored.

My guess is that when we are selecting 'run now' we may only be running the 'catalogue' and not actually the restore.

Can anyone supply any detailed instructions on how to do this restore please?

Many thanks in advance.

Julie

PS. I have guessed the SSR 2011 because I am not at work at the moment and havent got a clue!

System Recovery 2013 Installation issue with License Key

I need a solution

Hi,

My Client bought System Recovery 2013 in May 2013 and did not install it on the server. Then a very clever "IT in house guy" downloaded the trail version in May 2015 and installed that on the server and used it for a while. Yesterday the client asked us to install his version on the server so , we uninstalled the trail versuion , download his version from the Licessing Portol and installed that.

When we restart the server when the screen for the System Restore Comes up it tells us that a trial version is installed. I have tried every think .

Can someone please point me in the right direction as to how to tell the system that his is a new installation.

Much appricated.

JP
