Restore to different brand PC SSR 2011

I need a solution

I am using Symantec System Recovery 2011 for both the backups and the recovery disk. My backups are good and i can do folder and file recovery no problem. The issue I'm having is I'm going from a Lenovo PC that has Lenovo system drives as well as software and I'm trying to restore to an Asus PC. The Lenovo has a 128GB SSD drive so I purchased a Crucial 128GB SSD for the Asus and this is the drive I am recovering to. I followed a video that I found on Symantecs Site at this link: http://www.symantec.com/connect/videos/how-restore-symantec-system-recovery. I get all the way through the recovery and the PC starts going through registry settings, but then gets stuck on: Setup is preparing you computer for first use. I don't know if this is because the backup comes from a Lenovo PC and I'm restoring to a Asus PC or not, but isn't this why therer is the iptio to use restore anywhere? If anyone knows how to fix this I would greatly appreciate the help.

Computer Name after a Recovery Anyware

I need a solution

How should I handle the Computer Name on an RA from one machine to a new machine.  The new machine is going to have the same name after the RA as the old machine which I will still have on the network and you can't have 2 computers on the network with the same name.

Should I keep the new computer off the network until I can change one of the computers names?

SSR 2013 desktop do not cleanup recovery points

I need a solution

Hi,

Windows 8.1 PRO
SSR 2013 R2 desktop edition 11.1.0.53728

I´m currently testing SSR and found it do not delete old recovery points as it should.
I have 1 backup job defined where I backup my machine as a image every monday, tuesday, wednesday, thurday, friday and set it to limit number of recovery points to 3 with std. compression. New recovery pint set base is set to every 3 month.

But now I have 17 recovery point sets on my backup destination - one full and 16 incremantal - one for each time it has been running (scheduled/manual).

Under manage backup set I tried to enable Automatically optimize storage, and run the backup, but no recovery point set is deleted.

I am doing something wrong here or does recovery point set cleanup not work?

Regards

Robert

Invalid Target Drive HDD

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

Chris,

I have been monitoring the two seperate HDDs in a dual boot configuration and now each time I boot into the recovery environment I get both Invalid Target Drives. The edit function also works every time to enable the drives to become valid again but in my humble opinion that is not acceptable.

I can now say that this latest result eliminates the SSD and drivers fault.

As you quite rightly said in the previous thread it may be the fault of WinPE and now I firmly belive that.

WinPE cannot cope with a dual boot and or a multi boot machine only a conventional single drive as in my laptop.

I am sure that I am not on my own in the computing world using a dual boot or multi boot machine, some software apps work better on older operating systems.

I didn't realise that WinPE was a Microsoft code so maybe Symantec and Microsoft could get together and sort this out, but I won't hold my breath though because I feel that they (Microsoft) won't admit to it.

If you want to comment on what I have said feel free to do so but I am happy to close this thread now, I only opened it for your information.

Deric.

Getting multiple email alerts on successful job completion (full backup only)

I need a solution

Every week i'm recieving multiple (around 50) successful emails on a single full backup job.  It seems there is a email that is generated every time the backup software purges an old backup file (which i really don't care to know),here is a sample:

Date: 3/14/2015 4:21:20 AM
Notification Type: Info
Priority: High
Description: Info 6C8F043E: Recovery point F:\SBS Full Backup\SBS_D_Drive005.v2i deleted to comply with the size of recovery points to save for each drive.

The only options I see within the console are under Task/Options/Notifications/SMTP Email I have the priority level set to Medium and high priority messages and checks for Errors, Warnings, Information.

The only emails i want to recieve is when a completes (success OR failure).  How can i go about do this?

Data Hard Disk Replacement and Recovery

I need a solution

I have a data hdd that has been backed up for some time now with a backup set of a weekly full image and daily incrementals.

If the drive fails and I replace the drive with an identical new hdd (same drive letter) and recover the data to the new drive, and an Incremental backup is the next scheduled job for the drive, will that backup be an incremental or a full backup?

If it is a full backup, will SSR initiate the full backup automatically at the next scheduled incremental backup?

I am assuming that it will be a full backup since the .Vtrack info will have to be rebuilt for the new physical hdd?  Is this correct?

Also assuming that the ONLY purpose of the .Vtrack info is for tracking block/sector changes for incrementals?  Is this correct?

Thanks,  David

Can anyone recommend a NAS device (make or brand) that is compatible with this piece of software?

Currently I back up 2 x client PCs Win 7 64 bit, to external drives but as belt and braces, I'd like to  add both backups from the machines to a NAS device.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks. McP

How Should I Move SSR 2013 Management Solution to another Server

I need a solution

Apologies if this has been asked previously, we need to urgently move our Symantec System Recovery 2013 Management Solution installation to another server and I wanted to know what options were available to me.

I'm guessing I will first need to install a fresh installation of SSR 2013 R2 MS on the new Windows 2012 server, the existing install is on a windows 2008R2.

But then how do I migrate all of the existing client PC's, about 100 or so, with their backups between the old and new Management Solution Server?

Many Thanks in advance.

Does backup have to be mounted to browse files?

I need a solution

Hi....I converted from Ghost a year or so ago. I don't think until today I ever had the occasion to browse a recovery point backup and try to recover or view just one file.

I did that today and got very strange results. I was able to open the backup after entering my password (it is pw protected, if that matters). Then, I clicked on the folder that was there "Documents and Setting" and got only a blank. It was as if nothing was there. I checked the backup again--it looked correct. Finally, I mounted it as an H drive and everything seems to be there. I was able to open the file I wanted and do what I wanted.

So, I'm guessing the procedure has changed from Ghost, and it is mandatory to mount the drive first? Or, am I missing something?

I need a solution

After removing SSR2013 using Program/Features in control panel I get FATAL ERROR: Internal Error 26352, - 2147024891 trying to reinstall SSR2013.I've tried using UninstallSSR2013.bat, but I'm still getting the error.  I see a post that says this is fixed in SSR2013 R2, but it says the issue is on WS2012 and beside SSR2013 R2 is different product requiring new product keys for activation, so this is no help to me.  It stops during copy of files:

I need a solution

I had a virtual machine running on

HOST WIN 2012 HYPERV

GUEST OS WIN 2008 R2

with an SSR2013 deployed using SSR 2013 management solution, that appeared like non working (STATUS ? on the management solution, so like it was not installed, maybe not installed properly?). After updating to 2013 R2 management solution, I have set install policy to install SSR 2013 R2 on any pc not running any SSR. Because of this, it immediatly deployed SSR 2013 R2 on such machine. after installing and rebooting, the VM is not able to boot anymore, and I don't even get a "safe mode" boot option if I press F8 at boot, only "start windows normally" or "start recovery"

Normal boot gives this BSOD

0x0000007B (0xfFFFF880009A9928, 0xFFFFFFFFC0000034, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000)

If I try to start the recovery and run the recovery utility from cmd, I get

a patch is preventing system to start

file system check error 0x2

I guess that some installation problem occurred and caused a big mess in windows startup

I didn't notice SSR was not working on this VM till now, so I also don't have a recent backup of it....

Any help is appreciated

Symantec System Recovery & SNMP

I need a solution

We've a selection of customers running a range of versions from Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 to Symantec System Recovery 2013 R2.
I've enabled SNMP on each and have software to receive the traps running, but nothing is seen.
I'm picking up HP alerts so I know that the receiver is alive.
The MIB files (identical for each version it seems) have been uploaded to the management tool

There's very little in the way of settings in BESR/SSR - tick boxes and one dropdown so I'm assuming there is something behind the scenes that needs to be configured.

I've been reading through a variety of articles and manuals.

The manual basically says "Tick the boxes and choose from the dropdown" with nothing further.
Should I be configuring Windows SNMP services in a particular way or is there some other settings I'm missing somewhere?

Any suggestions?

Greg

Booten nach Wiederherstellung schlägt fehl

I need a solution

Hallo,

SSR Vorher Nachher.pdf

Blacksun

I need a solution

I have downloaded a trial of System Recovery 2013. I wish to create a full backup of my system disk (C:\) and in the event of a failure to install the disk into my PC and boot off it. Is this possible? Have I downloded the right product?

Exchange 2013 issue with SSR 2013

I need a solution

I have just migrated to Exchange 2013, CU7. I have tested  Symantec System Recovery and it does make backups. The issue is SSR 2013 is supposed to be VSS aware, and yet it does not truncate the transaction log files in Exchange 2013 when a full backup is made. Customer support can't answer this, yet I can't get tech support to answer until I buy the product. I do not like buying products that do not work, then making them work. I am hoping someone can answer this question here.

I am also wondering if Granular restore is in SSR 2013 R2 only for Exchange 2013, or can you also do that in 2013?

And if anyone can answer this question for me I would very much appreciate it. For the top issue I was told by someone to turn on Circular logging. But I thought I read that you should not do that if you are using Increnetal backups. I am using Incremental with a full backup made every week. What is the proper use of circular logging when doing this.

Thanks in advance!

Error unistalling trial version

I need a solution

I am trying to uninstall SSR 2013 trials from some pcs, and i have deployed an uninstall policy in SSR 2013 management solution.

Unfortunately uninstalls fail.

So I found this:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag...

And I was trying the options 1 and 2.

1 Didn't work

2 Asked me for the source installation files, that are missing.

So probably that's the problem. Unfortunately, I don't have SSR 2013 installation files anywhere, and now is possible to download only SSR 2013 R2 as a trial. Also in SSR 2013 management solution, I have found the deployment folders, but only 11.1 (2013R2) contains the installation files, while 11.0 (SSR2013) and 10.0 (SSR2011) are empty.

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

I have upgraded a Windows 7 Pro system from 2013 to 2013R2 to test it out and it seems to install and work just fine until I reboot the system. Once I reboot the system the main service crashes with

In the System log

The Symantec System Recovery service terminated with service-specific error %%-2147221005.

In the application log

Error EC8F1775: An error occurred while starting Symantec System Recovery service.
Error EC8F1772: The following component is not installed correctly: Symantec.SpnRegistration.
Error EBAB03F1: Following Operating System error occurred while performing requested operation: 'Invalid class string.' (UMI:V-281-3215-6005)

I can repair the software and it works after the next reboot but if I reboot after that it starts failing again.

Found this for an older version

REGSVR32 "<drive:>:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec System Recovery\Agent\spnregister.dll" (64 bit and 32 bit versions).

This seems to fix the problem.

What's being backed up during an incremental?

I need a solution

Morning everyone.

I just wondered if it's possible to determine what was actually backed up during an incremental backup job.

I only ask as we have a job which is set to create an hourly incremental backup throughout the day which will usually create a file of anything between 50 and 100MB but on rare occasion, it will create one which is 1-2GB and I'd like to know what content has changed and has triggered such a unusually large backup file to be created.

I appreciate that the software backs up modified sectors as opposed to file content so I'm not holding my breath on this one but thought it worth asking.

I've already confirmed that there aren't any processes running on the machine which could cause such a mass change like a defrag or similar so any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Good Morning,

I have a RAID 0 disk (2 x 500 GB). Is it possible to make a backup (for example using Symantec System Recovery) and restore the backup to a non-raid disks ? I have used around 390 GB of space and both partitions would fit on both drives. The problem is that I don't want to reinstall windows and all the software. I have Widnows 2012 Server
