I get a notice that my current back-up failed to back up RETools(*:\). In the set up it treats RETOOLS as a disk that needs to be backed up along with C drive etc. I don't know what RETOOLS is or if I need it to back up. It will back up correctly several times in a row but then I will get the failed message again. I'm a home user with limited knowledge. Any help?

After windows 7 - 32 bit update -- SSR R1 Cannot successfully reconcile
I have change from Ghost to SSR 2013 R1 on my 64 bit system. After some learning all is working OK. I suggested my son use SSR on his new 32 bit laptop. During the installation of new programs, he was able to make several backups with SSR without any problems. After installing MS Office 2013 and doing a Win 7 and Office update he is now getting the "cannot successfully reconcile" error.
I have use the SSR uninstall tool and re-install SSR, use the fixinstal tool and searched the website for a solution. No luck.
Is this a problem with 32 bit vs 64 bit? since my computer (64 bit) has most of the same programs as my son's Win 7 - 32 bit computer?
He tried to remove SSR and install Ghost 15 with the same error.
Any suggestion are welcome

I tried the workaround SSR suggested (http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag...), but that didn't fix the error. If anyone knows of workaround/fix, please share the same -- it would be of great help.
Thanks in advance,

SSR 2013 R2 Desktop Recover Anyware Question
At one time I had a Symantec info link to detailed instructions as to how to use RA to recover to another computer. Could someone point me to that please.
The computer I will be recovering from is an OEM version of 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium. MB is getting dicey and I want to migrate (RA) to a completely new machine. I was wondering if I'll be able to do a phone activation of this OEM Windows after the recovery. I know OEM versions are only for the hardware they were distributed on, but I wonder if MS makes an exception in the case of a system failure. Obviously, if I can't get it activated, I can't do an RA and I'll have to build the new machine back from scratch.
Thanks for the help!

Invalid target drive
Occasionally when I boot into the recovery screen (using LOR) and select a date recovery SSR shows invalid target drive.
The remedy is to highlight the recovery point and select edit, then select the target volume and then OK.
Then go back to the recovery screen and select recover my computer, select the date recovery point and the target becomes valid again.
I had this issue when testing last year and I would have thought by now this issue should have been resolved.
I did say when testing that I would monitor the situation and report accordingly.
When you need to re-image a machine this sort of thing shouldn't be happening.

Recovery disk can't communicate on network
I can't get my recovery CD to communicate with devices on my network. I tried DHCP first, which clearly timed out and didn't give me an address on my network. I also tried statically assigning the address of my computer. Doing that, I can ping my own IP address, but I cannot ping the default gateway or any other computer on the network. I get "destination not reachable" rather than timeouts. It has the right network driver:
Realtek 8168 NT Driver
{4d36e972-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
64-bit
8.7.1025.2012
Windows Client: 2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1
Any ideas?
Symantec System Recovery 2013 Desktop Edition
I installed this for myself and for a client in mid-2014.
Now, the client's installation seems to have gone wrong and I need to re-install.
Sadly, the software downloads only seem to include a 'recovery disk' with no apparent means of re-installing the software.
I successfully installed the 'trialware' version but, when trying to apply the licence key, it failed because the software serial number was incorrect.
There appears to have been an upgrade of this product recently which probably accounts for that.
How do I reinstall my client's software?
Issues With Symantec Recovery Disk
Hi,
I'm having serious problems with the symantec recovery disk. We are using Symantec System Recovery R2 Management Solution. PRevious to the R2 upgrade restores were tested using the downloaded recovery disk and everything worked fine now however I cant seem to get a test restore working.
I'm trying to a test restore on a Dell Poweredge 2850 which is running Server 2008 R2. I've created so many recovery disks I'm going insane. The first issue I experienced was that the 64bit recovery disk would not boot this server after testing this disk on other servers I logged a call with Symantec who got me to test the disk on a PC and it worked...
So I tried the 32bit disk and it boots properly andf I am able to get to the recovery utility. So now the main issue I am experiencing is that when I try to do the restore the target drive is always coming us as Invalid.
At first I assumed thta this was because I had created the recovery disk on our management solution server which is a VM so the disk didnt contain the relevant drivers for the server so I went to the server and tried to edit the ISO, but because the server is running a 64 bit OS I cant edit the 32bit recovery disk ISO... I tried editing the 64bit ISO, but that still wont boot.
So next I installed a full version of Symantec system recovery on a Windows 8.1 PC with a different license meaning I didnt have to create the recover disk through the management solution. Once again only the 32bit disk would boot the server and once again the target drive location comes up as invalid when I try to do the restore.
This time I ran the driver validation tool on the server and it came back as all drivers installed, but I still cant do a restore. I still cant edit the iso because its a 64 bit server and 32bit ISO. I've tried adding in the perc 4 raid driver once in the restore environment and that doesnt work.
So now I'm stuck, I cant work out if the problem is driver related, or because the server is built using MBR, but the restore file location is saved on a volume that is GPT.
Symantec System Recovery Solution - Windows Server 2012R2
I am not able to install SSRS on windows server 2012R2. When i try to click installation from browser it opens up another window and dies in few seconds. I don't see any error either. Can someone please tell me how to solve this.
Recovery Question
I'm so used to using the original Ghost 15 that now that I have Symantec System Recovery 2013 R2 I'm a little confused.
When I backed up using Ghost I would see three partitions..... C drive, System and D drive
When I backed up my W8.1 machine, the R2 creates three v2i files
- Name_C_Drive001.v2i
- Name_ESP0-2_Drive001.v2i
- Name_LocalDisk0-4_Drive001.v2i
I'm not sure as to which file is which.
Please correct me if I'm wrong...
- Is #1 the C partition?
- Is #2 the System partition?
- Is #3 the entire platter including all partitions and the two recovery partitions?
If I need to just recover C drive, do I use #1?
If I need to recover the entire platter, do I use #3?
Anybody...... HELP!
Buying SSR 2013 R2
Hi,
Please could someone tell me how & where in the UK I can purchase Symantec System Recovery 2013 R2 Server Edition? The buy now link on the SSR product page (http://www.symantec.com/system-recovery-server-edi...) just errors: http://buy.symantec.com/estore/mf/internalError
We usuallypurchase via Insight UK, but they seem to suggest SSR Server Edition is now part of Backup Exec 2014. Is this true? I don't want or need full blown BE on our server, I just need to take O/S image backups. Using BE would also mean re-writing all of our standard operating procedures when it comes to O/S backup!
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks
Ben

SSR 2013R2 automatic recovery fails
Hi
I have an issue with SSR2013 R2 respectively with LOR, I can backup computers to network destination, but I’m not able to recover a computer from the SSR console. (It works if I start LOR locally from boot menu)
LightsOut Restore is installed and configured to automatically start network services and use dynamic IP configuration. The package was created with the same settings.
If I start the task “recover computer” the computer is shutting down and is starting as expected the recovery environment, starts the network services, is detecting the automatic network configuration and then throws an error. “Info 6c95002c: Cannot complete automatic recovery operation. Please restore recovery point manually”
I was able to identify the problem, but was not to solve it so far, the recovery point can’t be found as it is stored on network storage but network is not configured correctly.
If I review the network setting, I can see that the default gateway is wrong, and DHCP is not enabled. Ip Address and Subnet Mask are correct.
If I switch to automatically IP address, renew IP configuration and delete the wrong default gateway, I can start manually to recover the computer.
That's the behavior when I try to recover from console or locally from SSR.
If I boot locally into the recovery environment from boot menu, network settings are correct.
Anyone an idea what the difference between those two methods to recover computer is and what I have to change to get this working?
So far we uninstalled all the agents from the test clients, completely uninstalled CMS, solutions and SMP from test server and re-installed with a new DB, but still the same.
Best regards,
John
Problems loading network driver for HP blade server in Symantec Recovery Disk 2013 R2
We are having major problems trying to load the correct network driver for HP blade servers located in a HP C7000 blade chassis. We have HP BL460c Generation 8 servers. The network card they are using is the HP FlexFabric 10Gb 2-port 554FLB Adapter, but no matter what we do we cant get the network adapter to be recognised within Symantec Recovery disk.
Hopefully someone else has worked through this problem already and has a solution?

Hello all!
I have problems with SSR 2013R2. Trying to backup to our Synology EDS14 SMB share, i am getting the following error when it comes to "My Computer Backup":
-----------------------------------------------------
--Unable to write to file.
---Error EBAB03F1: Following Operating System error occurred while performing requested operation: 'An unexpected network error occurred.'
---Unable to set file size.
----Error EBAB03F1: Following Operating System error occurred while performing requested operation: 'An unexpected network error occurred.'
(UMI:V-281-2001-31)

The NAS has the latest (Feb.2015) Firmware from Synology.
SMB works like a charm with all other software.
I also tried our other Synology DS414 NAS -> same error :(
When i choose a share provided from another windows machine, everything works fine.
Any help much appreciated.

SSR 2013 desktop history cleanup
I have the entire year of 2013 backups in my history that are not available. They all have blue question mark icons instead of the green check mark. I would like to know how to get rid of them in the history. I think they got there when the backup drive was replaced where the files were stored. The software seems to think they are coming back online someday when they never will. I don't have the backup drive to attach anumore to get them removed. So how do I clean this up in the software history when you do have the backup drive anymore? Uninstalling the SSRD 2013 and reinstall would do it but there must be a better way. Thanks. GB
