How do I get rid of old Backup Jobs that were managed by a Symantec BESR Management Server that no longer exists?

I need a solution

My customer is using Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery V8.0.4 and the Server which was being used as the Central Management node has died.  They also do not have the origianl storage node the centrally managed backup jobs were using.  They will upgrade soon and in the mean time I have created local Backup Jobs on the nodes to keep them regularly backing up.  I want to delete, or at least disable, all of the old backup jobs.  When I try to do this the BESR tells me "The backups job is controlled by a central management system.  Contact your system administrator."

I found Arcticle TECH67818 at http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH67818 and I can find some of the files mention in Step 3 (.PQJ and sv2i) but not the RPAM Folder in Step 4 or the RPAM file in Step 5.

Is TECH67818 the best way to resolve the issue?

I can provide Screenshots, etc if necessary.

Mike

How to restore an backup of system after re-installing windows

I need a solution

Hi,

I installed Symantec System Recovery

backed up my system.

It produced a file\folder package as seen in the attachment (capture001.png).

I then restored my system to factory defaults

This is esentially a complete re-install of windows from a recovery partition

I then did the experimentation that I needed to do with "fresh" system

I then re-installed Symantec System Recovery and was looking to restore back to the original backed up version, but am not sure how to do that.

The obvious route of using "Recover my Computer" is intended for when the backups have been taken on the same system. In my case I've done the windows re-install in between so obviously in that table there's no backups listed. Then I thought there must be a way to import the backup I have stored (capture001.png)

There's Recover my Computer\Tasks\Custom recovery option which brings up a wizard that requires to provide a single recovery point filename

and expected filetype is V2I

In my backu up folder I have 3 of those (I asume tehre were 3 partitions backed up in the process of doing full system backup)

So which one should I pick? (Capture002.png)

Should be the C Drive I suppose, but I'm not sure. I wonder if there's some magic way to restore all 3 of the files at the same time?

Also if I'm restoring the C: should I be choosing all of these options (Capture003.png) ?

How would this restore work if I'm restoring the system of which I'm currently running of? Does it reboot and then do some magic before windows has loaded? Surely windows c drive cannot be overwritten while OS is runing of off the same drive.

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks

Hello Support,

One more query for your help.

Has anyone used SSR 2013 on a Synology NAS device?

I noticed that the SSR does not remove the old backups and this fills up the storage.

I have to manually delete the old backups to create space for new backups.

What can i do to resolve this?

I greatly appreciate all the help from the forum.

I need a solution

I need a solution Win 7-64 SSR 2013 11.0.2.49853 up to date.

I have incremental backup sets that C Drive -020, C Drive -020_i001, C Drive -020_i002 , . . . . C Drive -020_i015, C Drive -020_i016, C Drive -020_i017, C Drive -020_i018.

I had a problem and needed to restore from the backup named i015.  Since the backup after 015 are "BAD" I would like to remove them.

Can I simply manual remove them or is them a special way to remove them?

I would like for a new backup set (-021) to start.  Will simply remove the bad backups trigger a new set?

Have five workstations running Windows 7 x64 Professional, Symantec System Recovery 2013 R2.  One machine gets 99% through the backups and is giving EBAB03F1: Following Operating System error occurred while performing requested operation: 'OS error 2147754996.'  Nothing is appearing in the Event Log except Error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points for job: WS3.  Error E0BB00B5: Snapshot error Error EBAB03F1: Following Operating System error occurred while performing requested operation: 'OS error 2147754996.' (UMI:V-291-3215-6071)  It ends up deleting the .tmp files.

The "More Help on the Web" link just shows a problem with Ghost, with an old and new version intermingled.  Other Google searches came up with problems on the VSS Provider, but the "vssadmin list providers" on a working system is exactly the same as the one that won't work.

Tried FixInstall.bat, no effect.  Tried removing and reinstalling the client.  No effect.  Not sure what else to try.  An identical system works, just this one fails.

Thanks in advance,

Terry

I am reinstalling BESR 9.0.0.0 35656 because of a HD failure and getting the following error:

Install has detected a newer version of this technology.  To install Symantec BESR 2010, Symantec BESR 9.0.0.0 35656 must first be removed through Add/Remove Programs.

BESR 9.0.0.0 35656 is not on the HD so I am stymied this point of how to proceed.  I know 2014 BESR is available but do not wish to upgrade.  Any suggestions?

Hallo,

Server2003 Backup jobs suddenly taking DAYS to complete

I need a solution

I have an older 2003 server that we are pushing to be upgraded but client has so far withheld doing so.  Recently we changed their backup scheme when the old tape drive broke.  Now it has 3 static USB drives.  We installed SSR 2013.  I setup 3 jobs.  Monday Wednesday going to one drive.  Tuesday Thursday going to another one and Friday to one of it's own.  The drives never get unplugged.  There is a separate monthly job that is run manually and kept in a vault offsite.

Typically the backup (~250gb) was taking around 4.5 hours to complete and has been running great for 4-6 months now.  However on January 14th, for no aparent reason the backup took 68 hours to complete and has been continuing to take this long to run.  I am cancelling jobs constantly.  It succeeds and runs normally maybe 1 day a week.  The rest of the time I log in in the morning and see a blinking progress notification that says "66 hours remaining" after it has already been running for 12 hours.  I have tried deleting and recreating the job, checking the event logs, checked the raid, tested the USB drives with Seatools.  I am finding literally nothing wrong with anything.  SSR is up to date and I am at my wits end.

All the log files I can locate give me no information as to any errrors the backup is encountering.  The progress log just shows Progress[10], 11, 12 so on with no errors that I saw.  The other log just shows started backup jobs and cancelled jobs with a couple successfull that manage to run normally.  The ones that do complete are not on any certain day either.  This week Monday ran and finished, last week it was wednesday, the week before that Friday ran normally.

Can anyone give me an idea of where to start shy of reinstalling the whole dang thing (which at this point probably would have been a lot faster if it works).

SSR 2013 R2 - Recurring service crashes

I need a solution

I'm running a trial version of SSR 2013 R2 as a possible upgrade for my current Ghost 15 installations. I'm having recurring problems with the Windows Service crashing. For installation I uninstalled Ghost as requested and rebooted after install. No installation issues reported.

I've managed to get through 2 x 8 hours backups, but several others  have failed and this morning the service has crashed several times without running anything. SymTrackServiceDebugLog.dbg files appear in the product logs folder.

The only external factors that may correlate are: this morning's crashes occur after the computer was in sleep mode overnight, and I also run multiple accounts and switch between them for different tasks - both 8 hour backups were allowed to run while only logged in to a single account.

As there is no technical support for a trial version I may have to abandon the product and find something else.

I'd appreciate any suggestions - thanks.

Does SSR have a server - client hierarchy like in NBU or BE ?

My understanding is that we install SSR on a SERVER A and it will backup SERVER A and so on.

Is there a central system from which i can manage if i have 50 servers using SSR.

Thanks in advance

Hey everybody,

For some reason the Symantec website does not let me create a new support case (times out), therefor I'm hoping this forum might be of any help.

I'm trying to install SSR2013 R2 for one of my clients (W8.1 Pro 64bit). When I run browser.exe or the SSRx64 setup.exe the installation starts with the message 'Loading the install. Please wait... ‘. After a few seconds this message disappears and the setup ends without reporting a clear error.

However I checked the SSRINST.html file within the C:\ProgramData\Symantec\SYMANTEC SYSTEM RECOVERY\LOGS folder. It reports the following error:

Symantec System Recovery (TM) 2013 R2 Installation Log

02-09-2015,09:39:31 : EnumProcesses Counts: 79

02-09-2015,09:39:31 : OS is Windows 8 or Windows 2012.

02-09-2015,09:39:35 : ERROR: Installation failed with error -532462766. GetLastError = :0

As test, I also tried to install SSR2013 (so not the R2 version) but it reports a similar error:

Symantec System Recovery (TM) 11.0 Installation Log

02-09-2015,11:27:17 : EnumProcesses Counts: 76

02-09-2015,11:27:17 : OS is Windows 8 or Windows 2012.

02-09-2015,11:27:21 : ERROR: Installation failed with error -532462766. GetLastError = :0

Support would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I need a solution

Hi guys.

I've been running with the situation of getting out of disk space where my backups are, so i have to go to each computer and clean each backup.

I've found in the Manage Backup Destination Settings an option to "Automatically optimize storage" that will allow me to stop worring about free space.

The thing is that i need to know what will it do automatically.

I need a threshold of maybe a week. Can it be configured?

Thanks so much for your time :)

Boot from SSR 2013 R2 Recovery Disk

I need a solution

I assume it goes without saying that the SecureBoot for UEFI-based computers must be disabled to permit booting from the SSR 2013 R2 Recovery Disk via an internal DVD/CD drive.  The following information is provided by Microsoft support:

"After disabling Secure Boot and installing other software and hardware, it may be difficult to re-activate Secure Boot without restoring your PC to the factory state."

"Before disabling Secure Boot, consider whether it is necessary. From time to time, your manufacturer may update the list of trusted hardware, drivers, and operating systems for your PC. To check for updates, go to Windows Update, or check your manufacturer's website."

I would like to know if I can somehow boot from my SSR 2013 R2 Recovery Disk via my internal DVD/CD drive without disabling SecureBoot so that i don't risk making a mess of my PC, or, if not, what the experience has been with other users regarding the disabling of SecureBoot to permit booting from the SSR disk.

Hallo,

Fehlermeldung erscheint keine.

Folgendes habe ich schon probiert. Allerdings ohne Erfolg:
